The 3 simple words of Louis Boa Morte are enough to make a few West Ham fan’s skin crawl. That sounds harsh (and it is) but I have pretty much literally seen it happen. It sounded harsh and it was harsh. To clarify, LBM does not make my skin crawl….it was just an observation of some of the fans around me.
I’ve thought long and hard about this post and it won’t be simply a slanging match against LBM.
Simply put, the guy isn’t good enough. I don’t want to sound over the top with this one, but it has been clear to me by just watching him shoot or cross that he doesn’t cut it in the Premiership. It is frustrating to watch.
One of the most frustrating things about this guy is that he cost us £5m.
One more time….£5m. That’s a lot of money for somebody who essentially has brought really not much to the team.
But we know all this right? We go through this every week when we see him pull on a West Ham shirt.
May I be as bold to say that I don’t think the problem surrounding LBM lies with LBM. We are all as fans aware of his frailties. We have been from day one. Unfortunately, it is not the fans who need to know…it is Curbishley.
It seemed last year (yes I know we had a lot of injuries) that whether he played well or badly, Curbishley felt it necessary to keep him in the team. As fans this is so frustrating to have to endure. I feel that our frustrations were unduly dished out onto LBM most of the time.
What Curbs in my opinion essentially was last year was exceptionally stubborn…..his system was right and LBM was part of his system. Even though it was clear that he really wasn’t good enough, even for all his running.
We knew that we had players like Kyel Reid out on loan for the majority of the season….he may not have been good enough at the time but why wasn’t he brought in to give LBM a break…to see if he could cut it?
It seemed to me that Curbishley has some sort of love affair with LBM….almost reminiscent of the time we endured some very poor performances from Lampard, leaving the game convinced he wouldn’t get a start the following week….but he did. It was this love affair in my opinion that aided the turning of the fans backs on LBM.
So I suppose, I feel that Curbishley should take far more responsibility for the way LBM was treated sometimes at Upton Park. I feel that his persistence with a clearly under-performing, £5m blunder caused the fans to become frustrated….not only the performances themselves.
I feel sorry for Boa Morte and for his sake I hope he moves to Sunderland….where his style of play can really be appreciated.
Sam
EDIT: If I may just clarify one thing….I am 100% not a boo boy. 100%.
People who boo at games get on my nerves as much as the net person and I agree it should stop. To summarise this post so there is no confusion, I completely agree that the booing of LBM for his performances is completely unjustified and instead more questions should be being asked about why Curbishley persised with playing him. I DO NOT CONDONE THE HATRED OF ANY PLAYER OR INDIVIDAL AT THE CLUB.

Why open an article in such an over the top way? Yeah we all agree that LBM didn’t cut it last year and wasn’t good enough, to write that its enough to make a West Ham fan’s skim crawl? Wrong chice of words my friend. How do you know LBM doesn’t read these “West Ham Fan’s” sites?
Good luck to the guy, I hope he moves on and does well for himself – he shouldn’t be subject to such abuse, when all he did wa try is best, OK, it wasn’t good enough, bit for god’s sake, give the poor bloke a brake, eh?

I hate the bloke, the sooner he goes the better and Curbs can follow him out the door, I note that after losing to MLS Curbs once again resorts to the “injuries” excuse and the season hasnt even started yet….what kind of a season are we in for…I hate Curbs more than LBM

I agree that LBM needs to go. He simply has not lived up to expectation. However, these boo boys who constantly boo our own players and manager have also played there part in making some players more nervous and not playing up to their true abilities. I wish they shut up this year and just back the team as the majority do.

I so completely agree with the comments above.lets not boo LBM,but Curbs for consistenly picking him.The last straw for me was whan Curbs didn,t sub him.when he was on a yellow and the ref. warned him again, where he fouled again and got red,so lets take the 3m and sell him.

Wholeheartely agree with Sam, and while I do not like the word hate I can understand the feeling of the postings, and are we already hearing the excuses of Mr. Curbishly ? the team is reaching : Burn Out: The season has only just began, £30.000 plus a week pro atheletes tired already after a few friendlies?. God help us in the coming season

Even if never has shown anything of quality in a West Ham shirt I think this hatered is so much over the top. Stop hate your own people. OK, some are good and some have lesser success. But still this LBM-thing has turned out to be a campaign full of hatred. And it’s close to some kind och sick desease. Get over it. If he goes he goes, if not, at least he tries! (we saw it certainly agianst MLS) If Curbs think his agressive style is needed in some matches I don’t see a point of booing LBM for that. Never boo your own players (and certainly not if they try). It won’t give The Hamemrs any more points, any more wins – and it’s sooooo f****n stupid!

“IF” LBM stays, gets off to a flyer, scores a few, creates a few and at Christmas, all is forgotten, will you still hate him? I doubt it very much. You’d be singing his name along with the rest of us.
What could he have possibly done for you to “hate him”?
And we all hate Curb’s too? I’m not his biggest fan, but the fact is, the guy is our manager and that’s how it’ll stay this season, so lets get behind him and back him. I certainly haven’t paid £615 to sit there booing him or LBM.

So I take it you weren’t at the last game of the season then? When he’s good he’s good enough for West Ham, trouble is he loves being the victim so a couple of tough tackles and he’s whining and trying to put people on stretchers.
Also, how many left wingers do you know that are quality and available? Begins with ‘Z’ and rhymes with ‘Nero’ by any chance?

LBM was quality at Fulham, scoring great goals, and taking on opponents with ease. It hasn’t worked out for him at West Ham, don’t know why, but get some money back on him and get shot of him. He is a big player for a lesser team, but if we are going to progress into a European team, we need top players, not players who try hard and are not very good.

lbm needs to move on for his own careers sake.him going to sunderland is a joke though,i mean are they that stupid up there? kean and co can have him 4 free.as for curbs i agree that the injury excuses have to stop now.He is creating the excuce around the place and all the players can thow a crocked one any time they have a bad game.come on ac,positive attacking footy please and no excuces from now on.
ps had to buy my ticket from southampton as the stupid system at west ham put me in a q 71 people in front of me for the last 3 days.not good enough for a prem team.sort it out before we just watch sky.

How can anyone expect a player to be at his best when he knows a large percentage of the crowd are on his back before he starts. The bloke has never stood a chance at West Ham but I can remember him putting in some very good performances at Fulham so take some blame yourselves hammers fans

Prince H are u a west ham fan for a start…..by the way u r talking its like you’ve never seen him play.
awful 30 odd games no goals and hes in our strikers list.Sears had 26 goals in 25 games and crubs only give him a shot after months of cole and lbm who couldnt find the net even if they were the only 2 on the pitch.
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
if your west ham should hate lbm
come on u irons!

LBM played some resonable stuff at his previous clubs. Every time I saw him play for WHAM he just did not appear to fit into the system of play. He always went for the shot at goal when he should play someone else in. Perhaps trying to score and ease the weight of the crowd on his back. His departure cannot come soon enough for him or us. AC tried a square peg in a round hole. The plus was that he did take the pressure off Cole who improved when the fans gave him an easier time.

He is such a waste of space. Give him a free transfer, whatever.
I dont “hate” LBM, but it is immensely frustrating watching Curbs try to justify dropping £5m on him

completely agree, only thing worse than LBM is Curbs himself…..the sooner we get rid of him the better.
He has no personality whatsoever, from what i gather the players dont like him either (having spent time with a former pro still v much involved at whu)
I can’t believe he not only moaned about injuries but he’s now saying some of the players are “burnt out” after our trip to USA. Its pathetic, he’s just fully of excuses, when was the last time you saw him smile and say something remotely positive, I cannot bear him.
Bring back Billic !!!!

Sam, Try playing in front of 30,000 fans that hate you, and see if you can play to your best ability.
Curbs must see something in him to keep him, look i dont know what it is but we really need to start getting behind our players and not booing, a majority of us at Upton Park on a Saturday has to be more than 12 yrs old, surely!!?

Do you not think that Curbs is covering his back with playing him? If you paid £5m for a player that was, well, playing shit. You would give him the most chances to play and show that he was worth the money you had paid. That’s exactly what Curbs is doing! Covering his arse and trying to admit he didn’t make a mistake to the tune of £5 MILLION!

Do we want LBM or don’t we. He hasn’t performed to the best of his potential, that we can’t deny. However he was fit for most of the season unlike many other star players. Also, he was one of our better players towards the end of the season just gone and helped keep us up the previous season with the rest of the team.
He will probably do better elsewhere and if he goes, good luck to him.
We need to get behind our players and manager and stop the mindless booing. Give Curbishley a chance with a full squad. If we make 8th that is progress, as was 10th place last season after almost getting relegated. I hate to say it but an awful lot of the so called fans that post on these sites, incluing the author of this post, write very little that is objective. It is sad really. Get real, but for the grace of God, some terrific team performances and a bit of luck, we would have been in the Championship last year. Think about that before you write this vitriolic nonsense.

@ steve….I have seen the reaction of a lot of ‘fans’ who sit around me and it is usually as bad as ‘making their skin crawl’….I would like to clarify though that that is not personally how I feel myself about LBM just an observation about the fans reactions when he is on the pitch

the only freakin thing worse the luis boa morte and his playing skills is curbishley and his managing skills get rid of them both in my opinion lbm hasn’t played well in any games last season and is like carlton cole cannot create, cannot score and can’t go a match without getting carded just think about the fa cup replay against man city outside of his left foot missed the sitter from it and he should hae squared it to ljungberg and let him put us one nil up that greedy cunt should be sold no matter what

TrevorH you must be mental fella…finish 8th!!! 18th more like with an idiot of a amanger who really doesnt have a clue its bottom half of the table next season, no where near 8th i cant believe someone with claimed intelligence and supports West Ham can even contemplate saying something so stupid, a full squad….how long will that last William Hill are taking bets on the first West Ham player to be injured and for how long!! WestHam only finished 10th because the Yids kept losing week in week out not because West Ham were winning playing under Curbs, his pathetic style of football and tactics winning just isnt going to be a regular thing at Upton Park next season, not until they fire his arse anyway, LBM being one of the better players are you sure you were watching WestHam playing…I seriously doubt you know wot your talking about then again you are a fan of Curbs!! IDIOT!! It’s gonna be a losing bottom half excuse ridden season as long as that bloke is in charge, proven by the tour to the US!! Burn Out & Injuries FFS!!!

The fact of da matta is that while lbm was getting persistent first-team play week, week out, ethrington was left behind. i think all fans will agree wiv me wen i say matty is double the player lbm will eva b. he’s scored more goals than boa morte and makes at least double the amount of chances than HE does. curbs knows he is under pressure 4 next season and is probably just making excuses.
the player west ham most need to invest in is scott parker. he is immense. if anyone saw the way he played against the MLS All-stars. he was rock solid. YES, ashton score two. he is probably going to be the top scorer for us next season, but sotty is a playmaker, and goal scorer, and rock solid in the midfield. he is our best player…BY A MILE!!!

Player tired!! YOU shouldn’t believe everything you read in the press. I would guess that curbs has been misquoted. As for LBM, he was one of the guys who assisted in keeping West Ham up, so some give the guy some credit. However, I do believe it is time for him to move on.
Some of the guys on here use the word hate, which in my honest opinion is too strong a word to stomach. It is a sport/game. Some of you guys need to put your lives perspective!!!!!

Bobbt Z u are just an arse along with anyone who support back cheers for Cubrs and his has been backroom staff who WILL destroy the fabric of our great club if he isnt sacked and soon any idiot with there eyes open should see what he did at Charlton, SOD ALL and that what he will do at Upton Park. There are 10 clubs in the league more ambitious with open wallets who will finish above West Ham, another 3 who have something to prove that puts us in at least 14th place next season…damn it u dumb ass sort out ur life

BazzaHammer you make a good point because since LBM has arrived at the club it has made Matty pull his socks up and work harder. It has only been this competition that has done it. If you remember a few years ago he got injured and was never the player he used to be until LBM came in.

In response to gjf, I watch over 30 games a season and I know what I see. I won’t lower myself to insults as you do but you should read what is written, not what you want it to say.
I say give Curbishley a chance, you say I am a fan of Curbs. Wrong.
LBM was one of the better players in the last few games. Read other posts and you will find others who agree with me.
Are you talking about the pathetic style of football that beat Man Utd and liverpool at home, that were playing with flair at the beginning of the season when our players were fit. Or are you talking about the pathetic style of football that we played at Chelsea when we dug in for 90 minutes and almost got a result.
Or perhaps you are talking about the pathetic style of football that we played before Xmas when we were grinding out results with the huge injury list we had.
Which one is it mate?
There are lots of things I disagree with. Last year’s transfer policy. Curbishley’s demeanour and excuses. The aftermath of Tevez dragging on. Mindless booing and negative fans. I for one am being optimistic and believe that we have a chance of breaking into the top 10. It will be hard work, we will need a bit of luck with injuries etc, but what is the point of going when you are that negative?
I saw 32 games last season gjf. How many did you see?

Look, LBM, Cole and Neil….none of them are that great. Curbs is boring long ball. We can’t change that. Do I want to see them gone? Yes! But, it doesn’t help anything to boo LBM week in week out. We HAVE to support them since they are wearing the shirt. LBM did decent for Fulham. Why? Maybe Fulham fans backed him better? Who knows. Maybe its bullshit long ball that he can’t deal with?
I agree with the fact that it’s made Matty that much more hungry for the spot. That’s who we really want there anyway. So leave him around for that matter. I think Curbs may be gone soon. Bring on Bilic or whomever and let’s see who has to work for their spots then! Could change a lot of things for the better.
I think the only thing holding us back from having a great season is Curbs, but we have to back him and keep the faith! Have to!!

trevor H – i agree with the other guy. Im embarrassed to be a hammer when i see 451. Thats not what we are about at all. if i want to see filth on that scale I’ll go and watch Wigan.
As for LBM, he’s got to be the biggest f*cking waste of space since….to be honest in 25 years of west ham supporting I cant think of anyone worse. Even Raddychoochoo had his moments.
I didnt go to 32 games last season. If you’re superior attendance record has given you the inside track on LBM Id love to hear it. ‘Cos from where I was sitting, he was displaying an attitude, effort level and ability more suited to a div 1 reserve.
Id also be interested to see how many first choice players – in the premiership era – you think have been less effective for West Ham than LBM. good luck with that one.
Im not a boo boy, but nothing is worse than a player who cant be dropped. LBM is clearly a favourite of Curbishley, and he is clearly being picked for reasons other than his (extremely limited) footballing ability. and that has got to be worth booing.
