That, Carlton, Is How You Respond To A New Contract. Sears Signs

So a second of our strikers this week has signed a new deal with the club. Freddy Sears signed today for a further 5-years which will see him in the Claret and Blue until 2013.

Either that or we are improving the amount of money we can ask for him in the transfer window….depending on your opinion on Scott Duxbury our financial situation will determine on the outcome of that debate.

Upon signing the contract, Freddy had this to say:

I am obviously delighted to have signed for another five years with West Ham,

I am looking forward to concentrating on football now and getting ready for the next game that is coming up.

It’s nice to know the club wants you here, for that long as well. I am enjoying my football and all that I have been doing and hopefully I can now show there is more to come

Obviously I am learning every day, I am 19 tomorrow and just trying to get better all the time and see how far I can go

That, Carlton Cole, is how you respond to signing a new contract with West Ham. Sears has shown maturity beyond his years with this comment, and I am delighted to hear that he has signed. If you haven’t done already, have a read through freddyfreddy’s post a couple of days ago entitled More Bad News For West Ham Fans….

He is demonstrating a desire to be playing football, to improve and to go places with West Ham and that is exactly we need.

Have a read of this if you want something that will get your backs up

    2. Why use this news as an opportunity to have a dig at Carlton Cole? I’m not his biggest fan and wasn’t over the moon when he signed a new contract but he hardly said or did anything wrong when he signed it?
You’re just having a dig for the sake of it and that is pathetic in my opinion.

    3. Have a read of freddyfreddy’s post a couple of days ago and you will see where I am coming from on this one.

Carlton Cole never did and still doesn’t want to play for us as far as I am concerned. It has shown in the way he plays.

Maybe now he has signed a new contract he will be scoring for fun, and I hope that is the case. But he has had plenty of time to prove himself and failed to do so miserably. Yet he only thinks that now is the time to knuckle down, because he is effectively ’stuck at west ham for another 5 years’

All I am saying in this post is that it would have been good if Carlton Cole had come out and said this….would have helped his case with the fans.

My issue is also with Duxbury who thinks that renewing Coles contract is a sign of us pushing forward. I really think not

    4. Sam don’t really get those comments about CC none of them were in the national papers where you thought they might be if he had said stuff like that. All I read was how delighted he was to have signed a new contract and that he was looking forward to pushing on under Zola.
Methinks someone is playing the devil.

    5. @ Chris:

I apologise, Having re-read CC comments from a more reputable source, he does say that he is pleased to have signed. The problem I have is that he thinks that now is the time to knuckle down.

He said when he originally signed that he sees us a stepping stone onto bigger things, which no west ham fan wants to hear.

I personally feel that the real issue here is not with CC it is with Duxbury who has said that this is us showing to people that we are looking forwards. It is not, and he is once again just pulling the wool over our eyes as far as I am concerned.

    6. Agree once again. I would never boo CC while he was playing or when being subbed because that honestly isnt helpin. its not his fault he keeps on being picked to play its the managers. i like zola alot, but i think he has already fallen in to the trap of thinkin CC is better than he actually is and i can’t see him dropping him when the time comes which will be his downfall and a reason alot of fans will start to become annoyed with him. Proove me wrong zola, do the right thing.

    7. SAD!!!!, he says he wants to knuckle down an u take that to mean he hasn’t before an twist it, End of the day he’s got a bad touch but i’ve seen a few games this season that you’d think he was the only player in claret an blue the way he was committed an puttin himself about. Say what u want he’s our top goalscorer an we should get behind him, carryin on like a bunch of bitchin old women is pathetic. He’s signed a five year contract I THINK HE’S COMMITTED!!!!!!!

    8. Why have you found a need to have a pop at Carlton Cole in the wake of Sears signing a new contract!i don’t see what Cole has done wrong after all he was saying how excited he was to have signed a new contract and is looking forward to the future!
Stop looking to find a way to blame Cole just because you obviously don’t hold him in high regard!!
