How would you respond to an Eggert return?

It’s clear we need somebody to takeover our club, we need that added financial security – although I’d be pretty gutted if we just turned into another City to be honest. However, fortunately, I don’t see that happening.

Despite the need for this added security, we don’t find ourselves in the situation that The Mirror quite disgracefully reported not so long ago that every single one of our ‘name’ players would be sold in the transfer window. Why they are allowed to publish such drivel, I don’t know.

Anyway…Eggert. The rumours circulating today are that Eggert is considering making an offer to take us over, for the second time. Although, the Telegraph reports, he wouldn’t be interested at the current price of £100M.

I’ve written about Eggert before a couple of times, but once around the time of Curbishley’s departure…this is what I wrote:

“There is currently a lot of cristicism floating about for Eggert Magnusson, but what is so clear now is that he oozed ambition…

Raw ambition without control is a dangerous as well, someting really dangerous. And too much control without any ambition (the situation we find otutselves in now) is equally devestating.”

The context of that comment was that I felt that Eggert was naive with his (and BG’s) money, and spent it foolishly. However what that demonstrated to me at least, was that he wanted to bring success to West Ham first and foremost. To the club and to the fans.

I’m not going to get carried away just yet with the rumours, but does anyone else feel that actually with the current triumvirate that we have in place (Zola, Nani, Duxburry) would be the perfect setting to contain and manage Eggert’s desire for success….whilst also matching it?

The prospect excites me, but it is still just a rumour

    1. One thing that i do remember about the Eggs reign, was that the mood at upton park was fantastic and full of optimism, and lets be honest, thats all we west ham fans need, some honesty and some hope. NOt too much to ask for is it.

    2. Eggert clearly loved writing cheques, but I do reckon that there’s often way too much blame placed on him. After all, for the most part, the players that turned up weren’t actually chosen by him. He just got a bit over-excited and went on a mission to make sure the managers choices arrived. Maybe he’d be more careful if it was entirely his money he was spending? There’s going to be loads of stories flying around about possible take over bids right now, especially since West Ham seem to be the great tabloid story generator. I’m inclined to take this and all future stories with a pinch of salt until something really does happen.

    3. Game on I say! He was a good egg and although cash boiled over sometimes he would fry anyone who didn’t come up to sctrach. He would encourage Dux to poach good players…ok I’ve run out of ideas but…I dont doubt Eggert would bring some fun debate back into the Club – sunny side up!

    4. Absolutely loved Eggert and his enthusiasm……..But I’m not sure I can stand having Icelandic owners again as we go from crisis to crisis with them.
I’d even prefer Sullivan & Gold to Icelanders!!!!

    5. To support the Hammers is very difficult and have to be patient but I love Westham. That’s what football means to me. For us supporters, is there some light at the end of the tunnel??!! Come on you Eggert!! COYI

    6. I would prefer “Egghead” to Sullivan, but I fear both names are just rumours made up by the press to fill the pages during the international break!

    7. We don’t have enough money for him. He likes to splash thousands a week on average players.

We cant even afford average players these days…
